March Newsletter

Dear Students,

We are delighted to see hints of spring appearing in Fairfield! Warm weather and spring rains, here we come! We have some great events happening in the next two weeks that you won't want to miss. Be sure to check out the MUM Events Calendar for updates on events happening on campus and in town! We have also uploaded pictures from our last two events: the Valentine's Day Dance and February's Open Mic. You can also check out the Rock Paper Scissors performance in Dalby Hall on Youtube.

Simply Raw 2: The Encyclopedia of the Raw Food Lifestyle - Wednesday, March 4th
7:30 pm - Dalby Hall
This DVD contains the Raw Food philosophy, the wisdom of eating a raw food diet, important medical facts and nutritional information. Watch and learn how to incorporate raw foods into your lifestyle!


Blood Drive - Thursday, March 5th
2 pm - 6 pm, Basement of Argiro Student Center

Give blood at the MUM Blood Drive. You can give if you last donated on or before 1/8/2009. Contact Jaime Fritsch at 301-213-9320 to schedule an appointment. The blood drive will be located in the basement of the Argiro Student Center.


Samuel Klemke Guitar Concert - Thursday, March 5th
8:00 pm - Dalby Hall
Classical guitar concert with Samuel T. Klemke, returning to MUM for the 3rd time due to popular demand!
Samuel T. Klemke was born in 1978. He received his first guitar lessons from his father at the age of 4. Already in early years he could call attention to himself with numerous successes - also in Duo with his sister Laura - at national competitions. In 1999 Samuel T. Klemke began studying guitar at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar with Prof. Monika Rost. In 2003 he graduated with the best possible mark and completed postgraduate studies with Prof. Müller-Pering. Next to his studies his musical profile was formed by masterclasses with Romero, Russel and Tanenbaum.

In 2004 Samuel T. Klemke was awarded a postgraduate scholarship of the Land Thuringia. In the course of this scholarship he studied the pieces by Toru Takemitsu and Hans Werner Henze. He became prizewinner of many national and international competitions, for example the Stafford Classical Guitar Recital Competition; he had concerts in Martinique, Japan, the USA and South America. Samuel T. Klemke is a very versatile guitarist, who is interested in the music from older periods to the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Together with his sister Laura U. Klemke he performs as the Guitar Duo Klemke, their first CD "Danza española" was released in 2005. He also produced a solo CD and a solo single CD.

The day after his performance in Dalby Hall, Samuel T. Klemke will give a master class on guitar for guitarists. You won't want to miss this incredible opportunity to study under a master in guitar performance.

Delicious Beats Dance Party - Saturday, March 7th
8:00 pm - Argiro Lobby
Come and enjoy a colorful mixture of different international genres at the Delicious Beats Dance Party! These beats are spicy and sure to satisfy all the doshas! Some genres that will be included are Salsa, Merengue, Deep and International House, Hip Hop (German, Chinese, French and Finnish!) and Ethiopian music. Be sure to join in with visiting students from the Real Food Summit.


Codex Alimentarius Documentary - Tuesday, March 10th
8:00 pm - Dalby Hall
A free documentary screening about Codex Alimentarius - Nutricide: Criminalizing Natural Health, Vitamins, and Herbs. The Codex Alimentarius is a threat to the freedom of people to choose natural healing and alternative medicine and nutrition. Ratified by the World Health Organization, and going into Law in the United States in 2009, the threat to health freedom has never been greater. This is the first part of a series of talks by Dr. Rima Laibow MD, available on DVD from the Natural Solutions Foundation, an non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about how to stop Codex Alimentarius from taking away our right to freely choose nutritional health.

Are you ready for an amazing, spectacular evening featuring... you? Don't miss the March Madness Open Mic!
All students, faculty and staff are invited to share songs, poems, dances, short films, rap, magic tricks, or any other form of artistic expression.

You can find sign up forms on bulletin board in the Student Lounge. Please return the sign up form to the Student Activities office, located in the Student Lounge in the Argiro Student Center.
